Taylor Swift Feuds With Old Label

Taylor Swift lashed out at her old label on the Internet on Friday. In a post on Twitter, she argued that she deserves the right to perform her songs for the public. Singers like Selena Gomez and Sara Bareilles immediately gave her their support. However, other large names in the music industry remained silent.

Taylor Swift, who will give a performance as “artist of the decade”, wanted to perform a medley of her hits at the Amerian Music Awards. However, she claims that Big Machine Label Group, who owns the master recordings of said hits, prevented her from doing so. Almost immediately, Big Machine fired back, saying that Swift gave out false information. They also said they have no right to limit her live performances.

Robert De Niro Wins Lifetime Achievement Actor Award

Robert De Niro, a two time Golden Globe winner, will receive the annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) lifetime achievement award. “I have been a member of this union for over 50 years. It’s an honor to receive this award from SAG-AFTRA,” De Niro said in a statement. He also joins the ranks of actors like Alan Alda, Elizabeth Taylor, Morgan Freeman, Clint Eastwood, and Debbie Reynolds.

In addition, he will receive the award in Los Angeles on January 19th. “From the smoldering inferno of young Vito Corleone to the raging bull Jake LaMotta and everybody’s grandpa Ben Whittaker, (De Niro) continues to touch our hearts and open our minds to new and exciting worlds of understanding and emotion,” SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said in a statement.

Disney+ Launch Plagued By Tech Glitches

The long-awaited launch of Disney+ was plagued by technical issues. Disney said that the problems were caused by higher-than-expected demand for the service. Currently, it is unclear how many people signed up for the service as well as how many people were unable to access it.

“While it’s easy to focus on the temporary problems, there’s no doubt that this also shows an enormous demand for Disney’s services,” said Clement Thibault, an analyst. “Big launches often have their hiccups when consumers are fighting to be the first to have a given service.”

Gervais Returns As Golden Globe Host

Four-time Golden Globe host Ricky Gervais will return for a record 5th time, the actor announced. “Once again, they’ve made me an offer I can’t refuse,” Gervais said on Tuesday, announcing his return for the award show. “But this is the very last time I’m doing this, which could make for a fun evening.”

Doherty Jailed For Three Months

Rocker Pete Doherty pleaded guilty to charges of affray in Paris on Tuesday and will spend three months in prison. In addition, he received a 5,000 euro fine. However, his prison sentence was suspended, meaning that instead of serving time, Doherty will stay on probation for two years. “It is a lenient decision. Mr. Doherty will be able to keep singing. It is what we had asked,” lawyer Arash Derambarsh said.
