Our skin is probably one of the most sensitive part of our body. It’s very important because our face contributes to first impressions. Nobody ever looks forward to talking to someone covered in dirt or grease. It is common to hate skin imperfections such as acne and blemishes which is why beauty products like Tamanohada are so popular; however, there are ways to prevent skin problems from worsening.
Here are some of the common habits that could cause skin issues and irritation:
Forgetting to apply sunscreen when going outside.
One of the most common causes of skin damage is because of the sun. Sun exposure without protection can lead to premature aging and even skin cancer at worst. With that in mind, it’s surprising how often people forget to apply sunscreen to their hands, ears, chest and lips when they’re going out. Those who do remember, tend to forget to reapply after a few hours. A recommended sunscreen would be one with titanium oxide and you should reapply once every two hours at the least. Make sure your makeup contains adequate sun protection too.
Using strong and scented body soaps on your face.
Cleansers like strong soaps and foaming facial washes contain detergents that, like hot water, remove lipids from the skin and damage its barrier. Not only does this allow water to evaporate from the skin, but it lets irritants enter skin cells and cause inflammation. Because shampoo may also contain this irritating ingredient, it’s best to shampoo first, then wash your face and body to remove any traces of it. Also potentially harmful to skin are alcohol- and water-based cleansers, bubble baths, and heavily fragranced soaps. More soothing options are oil-based, unscented mild soaps and body washes.
Not drinking enough water.
When people tell you to drink more water, you should heed their advice! The minimum of 8 glasses a day or 2 litres of water is important to ensure the proper bodily functions. Water is literally life and this cannot be emphasized enough. You should really make sure that your body is hydrated enough so they can regenerate cells properly. Dehydration can not only damage your face but the rest of your body as well.
Forgetting to wash pillowcases and face towels.
Keep in mind that pillowcases and towels can harbor oils and bacteria, so using the same one for too long can lead to skin problems such as acne breakouts. To make sure your linens aren’t affecting your skin’s health, make sure you launder and change them as frequently as possible. Two weeks should be the longest that you use pillowcases and towels without washing them. If you’re prone to sweating, change them at least once a week.
Frequently touching your face.
Hands are dirty. We touch everything and germs get passed around all the time. It may not sound much but frequently touching your face especially when you haven’t washed your hands yet, can use the germs to transfer to your face and cause breakout. Try to mentally remind yourself to refrain from constantly touching your face and wash your hands as often as possible.
Over or under exfoliation.
That feeling of softness and smoothness after exfoliating your face is always nice. However, chasing that beauty high has led a lot of people to overdo it, scrubbing skin into a blotchy, irritated mess. Exfoliating too often breaks down the skin-barrier function, meaning new skin never has a chance to build up. Skin becomes more sensitive to irritation, which leads to inflammation and actually speeds aging. The recommended amount to exfoliate is once or twice a week to avoid irritating your skin.
Drinking too much coffee.
Coffee really dehydrates the skin. There’s no denying that coffee is really good and there’s always something pleasant about drinking it. However, moderation is key. Too much caffeine can leave your skin looking dull and lifeless.
Not sanitizing phones.
Your phone is one of the dirtiest things that can touch your face. Regularly wiping your phone with wipes can help to limit the bacteria and dirt that gets transferred from your phone. You can also try to minimize the contact between the phone and your face by using bluetooth earphones or headphones.
Learning the little habits like these can really help in keeping your skin healthy and full of life. Being aware means that you can now make plans to put a stop to these little habits and incorporate new ones that will help you in the long run.
