Breanna Stewart Named 2018 Female Basketball Athlete of the Year

Breanna Stewart was named as the 2018 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year. She helped Team USA win the FIBA Women’s World Cup. The 6’4” forward started all her games in Spain and averaged 16.3 points as well as 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. In addition, this marks the third time she has been awarded this honor.

“It’s really an honor,” Stewart said. Along with the award, she ends the year with the WNBA Most Valuable Player. Also, she currently plays for the Seattle Storm and led them to a 26-8 record and the league title.

High School Football Player Killed Days Before Semifinal

Texas football player Drew Conley was reportedly shot and killed in a domestic dispute Monday. The defensive linebacker, age 17, played for Texas high school Fort Bend Marshall. Reports indicate that the teenager got involved in an altercation with his uncle. His uncle grabbed a rifle and shot him in his upper leg. Following that, his girlfriend took Conley to the hospital, where he died.

His death comes as a big blow to Marshall’s football team, who is gearing up to play in the state’s semifinals. The uncle was taken in custody and officers called to the scene recovered the weapon in question.

2020 NFL Draft To Be Held In Las Vegas

The NFL announced on Wednesday that the 2020 draft will take place in Las Vegas. This decision comes as a surprise because the NFL has denounced gambling many times. In addition, many teams are worried that letting young adult draft picks free reign around the country’s most flashy city isn’t that good of an idea.

This announcement comes on the heels of the Raider’s move to the city, which is expected to be finalized by 2020. The city is getting a new stadium as well.

Basketball Standings This Week

Currently, the Raptors lead the NBA Eastern Conference with 22-7 record. They won yesterdays game 123-99. The Bulls trail last place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 6-22 and a currently loss streak of two.

In the Western Conference, Thunder currently leads with a 17-8 record and a win against the Jazz Tuesday. In last place is the Suns, with a 4-24 record and a loss streak of 10.

2019 MLB Draft Projections

Currently, the top pick for 2019 belongs to Orioles. The top prospect is catcher Adley Rutschman, who played for Oregon State. He won the Most Outstanding Player award in 2018 and helped the Beavers win the College World Series. In addition, he batted .408/.505/.628 and had 102 hits and 83 RBIs in his breakout sophomore season.
