Monty Python Celebrates 50 Years

People will take to London’s streets to celebrate Monty Python and its 50th anniversary. And, they’ll come dressed as some of Python’s silliest characters. All of this is an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people to dress as Gumby’s. “It’s all so excitingly pointless,” said Python Terry Gilliam, who will host the event.

The anniversary is shaping up to include a feast of dead parrots, silly walks and singing lumberjacks. All of this served up by Gilliam, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and the late Graham Chapman. In addition, the party will also showcase the members’ post-Monty Python work such as Cleese’s “Fawlty Towers”. “[Monty] Python has survived because we live in an increasingly Pythonesque world,” the troupe said in a press release. “Extreme silliness seems more relevant now than it ever was.”

Diahann Carroll Dies At 84

Versatile singer and TV star Diahann Carroll died on Friday at the age of 84. She had suffered from cancer and died in her sleep in her Los Angeles home. “She had been fighting it for quite some time, and did not want the world to know,” said Brian Panella, who had managed her career for 20 years.

Carroll starred as Julia in the sitcom of the same name. In Julia, she played a mother and a nurse who struggles to raise her son after his father dies in the Vietnam war. In addition, she also played Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek. However, Julia was the first primetime series to star a black woman. “She never wanted to praise herself for anything in that regard,” Panella said. “It was more that she felt that she was a part of the expansion of the African-American community in the arts, not the sole creator of that movement.”

Beatles ‘Abbey Road’ Tops Charts Again

A re-release of The Beatles’ Abbey Road topped the British music charts again. “It’s hard to believe that Abbey Road still holds up after all these years. But then again it’s a bloody cool album,” former Beatle Paul McCartney said in a press release. Its initial 17-week run at number one ended on Jan. 31, 1970, and it returns to the top of the charts after a gap of 49 years and 252 days, a feat certified as a Guinness World Record.

Spidey Swings Back Into The MCU

After about a month of uncertainty, Spiderman is confirmed getting another movie in the MCU. With a new deal between Disney and Sony, the webslinger gets a new 2021 movie and will appear in an additional MCU movie. “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue”, Kevin Feige said in a statement.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Is A Hit

The latest addition to Destiny 2 released last Tuesday and allows players to return to the Moon, which hadn’t been seen since the original Destiny. With some returning locations, exotic weapons, and PvP maps, it seems like this new expansion is fueled by nostalgia. Plus, with a new raid, armor system, and a complete PvP overhaul, it seems like Destiny 2 is only getting stronger.
