Central Authority is not constituted in the state 1921 to advise state government and other appointing authorities in the recruitment of the state Civil Services. The government constituted for the first time a central agency for recruitment of “Central Recruitment Board”. The board is attached to the office of government secretariat till 1940. The office of Central Recruitment Board which is a part of Mysore (Now Karnataka) government Secretariat followed the government Secretariat manual, for office out recruitment and conduct competitive examinations for Karnataka govt jobs through KPSC.

The state of Karnataka is maintaining its public service commission with a website www.kpsc.kar.nic.in. This is being run successfully with the sections Accounts, Administration, Examination, Clearance Branch, Computer Centre, Consultation Branch, Confidential Branch, RHS Branch, Information cell, Legal cell, Recruitment, Departmental Exam and Information center. It is providing an opportunity to candidates the Eligibility, Selection and Rejected lists for further confirmation and to avoid confusion.

Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) announces its notifications for applying within a certain period of time. It clearly mentions the Number of posts, Age limit, Age Relaxation, Educational Qualifications, Experience, Salary Pay, Category reservation, Mode of examination, Fee details, Method of applying i.e. Applying through Online or Offline, examination procedure etc. Each examination has its own pattern for applying depending on the nature of the post. The selection process for some examinations may be through two step process i.e written test and Interview. For the other examinations, the selection may be through one step process i.e direct Interview. For the other examinations, the recruitment can be done directly through the scrutiny or verification of the sent applications. The written examination pattern may be either by Objective type or Descriptive type. Some examinations are conducting the examinations with certain Cutt off marks and Negative marking.
